Summer Essentials in Home Decor
Now let’s get started with the tour…first I want to share some simple home decor summer essentials that I added to my kitchen. I kept it very easy this summer and updated my kitchen in a matter of minutes..okay, okay..maybe an hour, but it’s so simple anyone can do it, promise! I am constantly restyling my open shelving next to my range depending on the season and current design trends. I do the same in my living room and Summer is no exception. Below I am sharing my summer essentials and styling tips when updating your summer decorating…
- Bring out the succulents (faux or real). Now I will admit I do not have the most green thumb, hence why I like to use nice looking faux plants often when decorating. They can look so realistic these days and can go with so many various decor styles. This terrarium is one of the first items I brought out for some summer style. I love the lime green moss in it along with the purple shades. The brass edges of it pair perfectly with my kitchen too. This look can easily done on a budget, which is always a win. Over in the corner of my countertop, you can see some paper succulents I added to a white vase. I think when its summertime especially, you need some pops of greenery to add a natural element to your interior design aesthetic. I made a DIY succulent arrangement last year and it turned out great..you can view that post here.
- Add some blue for a more coastal feel. I love blue colors and patterns year round, but added a bit more to my kitchen for summer as it seems so coastal this time of year. I brought out some turquoise mugs that were hiding in my cabinets and placed them on my shelves. Blue is perfect for your summer decorating as the color is similar to a pool or the ocean. I also put a blue kitchen towel out and draped over my sink along with a turquoise towel over by my oven. Kitchen towels are one of the easiest ways to change the color scheme in your kitchen..assuming most everything else is fairly neutral. I also had a cute blue and white lidded jar that I put next to my sink on a stack of books.
- Put some brightly colored fruit in decorative bowls or glass urns. Fresh fruit is something every interior design expert will use as kitchen decor. I love to use it too! It brings life to the kitchen and adds such great color. I like to bring out green apples, lemons, limes and pineapples! This summer, I put some lemons and limes in this brass bowl on my island. In the past, I have used this dough bowl and this wooden bowl to put fruit in and they look so good. I also like to use fruit in these glass pedestal urns and set them out on the counter. Another cute idea is to add some lemons or limes on top of a simple white cake stand. It looks so simple and fresh. You will also notice I added a fun gold pineapple candle by my oven and the cutest pink and white pineapple print(similar linked)I found last year. Pineapples scream summer to me so they are definitely an easy and festive summer essentials to decorate with!
- Add some wicker or rattan baskets. I found this wicker tray one day and knew I needed it as a decor piece. Wicker and seagrass baskets are an easy way to add a summery, beachy vibe to your decor styles. They are a great piece that can be used for either indoor outdoor summer decorating. Fill them with pillows, throws or etc. I chose to hang this shallow tray over on a narrow wall in the corner of our kitchen. I added a boho pillow from the living room and a small furry stool and I love how it made an unused corner into something more stylish.

Summer Essentials in Fashion
Now I will share 2 easy and fashionable looks for summer. My style is definitely very casual and easy to wear. We have 3 young children (click here to learn more about me), so I always keep that in mind when buying clothes for myself. I like an outfit that I can chase them around in and still be comfortable and put together at the same time!
Look 1: Jeans and a simple white top (very similar linked) are something you are going to find me in ALL THE TIME! When I am wearing something very simple, I will typically add a fun bag and a pop of color with a statement earring. I just love the colors and patterns in summer fashion. This yellow clutch is the perfect summery color. I love the large size of the clutch (even my iPad fits in it) and the tassels on the zipper. We go to Turks and Caicos later this month and it will definitely be coming with me. Wedges are another summer essential without a doubt! I have worn this neutral pair so much and the best part about a wedge is they are usually very comfortable while still giving you some height.
Look 2: For this neutral look, I added a light open cardigan over a nude colored tank. Do you always get cold when walking into store or restaurant when they have the AC turned way down? I know I do, and this cardi is perfect for those times. I will tie it around my waist if it’s too hot and then put it on when I get chilly again. I am wearing the same neutral wedges but this time added a nude crossbody bag. I love this vegan bag so much and it can also be used as a clutch. It also has my initials monogrammed very subtly in gold on the bag which is the perfect touch.
