Hi ladies! I have received lots of questions about my nighttime skin care routine the past few months, so I wanted to share what I have been using lately. You know I take my skincare routine very seriously, but I am always looking for time savers as well. Some days after playing taxi driver and getting my 3 kids to all of their activities, I am soooo worn out. The last thing I want is a super long routine that is going to take forever. Today I will share my steps for my simple nighttime skin care routine that keeps my skin glowing and feeling refreshed.
My Super Simple Nighttime Skin Care Routine
Step 1: Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse! Ladies, I know we all are so tired by the end of the day that sometimes we don’t have the energy to cleanse our face. But all of the makeup and grime left over from a busy day wreaks havoc on our skin. I read somewhere that not washing your face at night is just as bad as not using a sunscreen when you are outdoors to protect your skin! That is BAD NEWS. So on those super tired days, I love using cleansing wipes. I used to think they wouldn’t work well or get all of the makeup off of my face, but I was wrong and have been using them for months now. The ones I have been loving as of late are the Olay Daily Facials. Cleansing my face honestly feels like less of a chore using the Daily Facials cleansing cloths!
Olay Daily Facials are dry cloths that are water-activated to release a rich lather. The soft cleansing cloths gently lift away dirt, oil and makeup – even my mascara. My face feels so smooth after using the Olay Daily Facials and I love that they offer 5 in 1 skin benefits… removes makeup, cleanses, scrubs, tones, and softens skin. I even keep a few in my shower as well. The funniest part is my husband totally steals them from me and loves them too! They are so simple to use and are such a timesaver.
How to use Olay Daily Facials:
- Wet with water
- Rub between hands to form a rich lather
- Cleanse (even around the eyes is okay!)
- Rinse cloth in water and use it to rinse face (this step depends on how much make up you have on)
- Rinse, pat dry with towel
- Check out all that dirt and makeup on the used Daily Facial.
- Throw away (do not flush)
- Feel how great your skin feels and looks.
Step 2: Use a high quality Retinoid. Ask any dermatologist or esthetician and they will tell you using a retinoid is one of the absolute best things to add to your nighttime skin care routine! This is a MUST to help against aging, sun damage, pore size and texture and so many other skin issues. It works by increasing your skin turnover so you are left with glowy skin. I have been going to a dermatologist since my early 20’s and they ALL recommend using some type of retinoid. I have used everything from prescription Retinol to an over the counter product. You definitely have to get your skin acclimated to using a retinoid as it can be very drying in the beginning. You also must stay out of the sun and be diligent about your SPF as your skin will be more prone to burning. Right now I am using a 1% physician grade retinol about 5 nights per week. I apply it after I cleanse with the Olay Daily Facials. Only use a pea sized amount on your face..anything more is a waste and will cause way too much irritation. I also apply to my neck and chest.
Step 3: Use an eye cream. The delicate eye area needs special attention. I thought for years I could just use my regular moisturizer around my eyes at night and that would be fine. But then I had an esthetician ask me why my eye skin was so dehydrated?! GASP! I told her it must be because I wasn’t using an eye cream and she said definitely adding one to my simple skincare routine would help and so I did ASAP. Use your ring finger to gently apply it around your eyes and around my eyebrows too. I don’t have a favorite..I use various brands.
Step 4: Add some lash serum. This isn’t exactly skin care but I do apply a lash serum right before bed. Having my 3 children has wrecked my eyelashes for some reason. They basically fell out or broke off. So after I finished nursing, I was excited to try something to help my eyelashes grow back. After I apply my eye cream, I swipe on a tiny amount of lash serum to my lash line. You have to be consistent with it or it won’t work. It took me about 8-12 weeks to start seeing results.
Besides these simple 4 steps I use for my nighttime skin care routine, I of course, drink tons of water during the day and I ALWAYS use sunscreen…even on cloudy days and in the winter. I like to find a tinted moisturizer with Zinc oxide and basically use that as my foundation for the day. I also apply to my neck and chest and even my hands. I hope these helpful tips have inspired you to take better care of your skin. Remember that the Olay Daily Facials can be found at all major retailers and work so well on my skin. Just look for the pink box! Thank you for stopping by.
