It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’ve been in such a great mood this month! I love Christmas and I am loving all the fun family activities that we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy! I am literally grinning as I write thinking about how excited I am for Christmas morning. Every year I catch my kids sneaking into our living room to shake their presents and call out wild guesses about what could possibly be inside…that is if I have actually had the chance to wrap their gifts! Some years, I literally wrap Christmas Eve until there wee hours of the morning. Speaking of my living room, did you catch my living room holiday home tour…I shared how I created a cozy, yet festive holiday living room this year?! I was able to decorate with fun Christmas red and whites yet I also integrated neutral décor that I can use all winter long.
It’s not Christmas without a tree! Putting up the tree is one of the first things I like to do to get my decorating started! The tree instantly makes the house very festive! This year I switched up my scheme from past years. I have a 10 ft. prince flocked tree from King of Christmas. I chose a flocked tree because as you may have noticed my house is mostly very neutral and the flocked tree just pairs so well with my existing decor. The flocked tree also gives off major Winter Wonderland vibes with the look of frosted snow covering the tree. Today I want to share with you 5 things you need to know on how to decorate a flocked Christmas tree. Learn from my mistakes and create a beautiful and elegant holiday tree.
How to Decorate a Flocked Christmas Tree
- Wear Clothing you don’t mind getting dirty//First things first, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wear clothes you care about! The first year we had our flocked tree, my husband made the mistake of wearing a nice black North Face jacket when he set the tree up for me out of the box. BIG MISTAKE when dealing with all of the flocking that will shed. He ended up throwing the coat away because we literally could not get the flocking out of the fibers of the jacket. He looked like a dalmatian! Ha! So this year, I wore an old white t-shirt when I decorated and fluffed the tree.
- Fluffing the Tree is a Must//Ready for the BEST tree fluffing tip EVER?! When fluffing a flocked tree, wear a pair of old tube socks or etc.– put them on your hands/arms to avoid scratching or cutting your arms! I will forever be grateful for my amazing Instagram followers for giving me this tip! My hands and arms had no cuts this year and my tree was so full and fluffed. After sitting in the box smashed all year, every artificial tree needs to be fluffed.
- Buy a Pre-Lit Tree if you don’t already have one// I cannot recommend this enough since flocked trees make a real mess when you are decorating them. While this only saves me 1 step – it saves A TON of time! Also, having your pre-lit tree means less time on the ladder, especially when you have a tall tree! I’m always nervous that I’m going to fall off and break my arm so less time on the ladder is always a good idea. A pre-lit tree makes decorating much faster and less hassle. A win-win for sure.
- Realize that White and Neutral Ornaments will not show up well in a Flocked Tree// In the past I always decorate my trees in whites, silver and gold colors, but this year I wanted a more festive look that will show up better in my flocked tree! I love a neutral tree, just be aware I had to buy lots of additional ornaments this year since I felt you couldn’t see many of my old ornaments. They disappeared into the white flocking. I chose to add a handful of bright red ornaments to give an elegant red touch. It really is GORGEOUS against the white tree branches. Another fun touch I added this year was some gorgeous red berry stems. I place those anywhere that looks empty and to cover up any holes that stand out to me.
- Don’t Add the Tree Skirt until the very End// As I have mentioned previously, the flocked tree makes a mess when you are decorating it. Don’t make my same mistake and add the tree skirt or pretty throw to the base of the tree as soon as it’s up. The first time I did that, it was soooo dirty from the falling flocking that I had to wash it and shake it out several times before it looked good again. Wait until you are done decorating and then vacuum under the tree. always and forever using my FAVE cordless vacuum. Once it is all cleaned up, then add the nice tree skirt to cover up the base of the tree. I also added lots of “faux” gift boxes after the skirt was on and the floor was vacuumed. It helps complete the look for sure as sometimes I don’t wrap until Christmas Eve like I mentioned above.
