I hope everyone has been having a great summer so far! We have been SO busy having lots of fun family time and it’s making summer break fly by. We actually just got home from Mexico 24 hours ago as I am writing this! While I’ve enjoyed our trips we have been taking, coming home with loads of laundry is never fun.
Since I spend so much time in my laundry room, which also doubles as my office, I previously wrote a blog post on How to Refresh Any Space in Your Home. It shares how I transformed my laundry room recently. If you’re going to spend a lot of time in a room might as well, make it pretty right?!
Today I am SO excited to reveal another room at our home that has never been on my Instagram account or blog before….our guest bathroom! I’ve never shared our guest bathroom in our house and I’m not sure why since it’s the most seen and used by house guests, etc. It is dark and moody, but sometimes hard to photograph in all honesty! Since this is the bathroom for guests, I wanted an elegant room that resembled a spa or hotel bath…Something you might see in the latest issue of “House Beautiful!”
I kept feeling like the bathroom wasn’t totally “done” and so I was thrilled to choose a fab wall art piece available via Wal-Mart.com. Art.com has created an extensive collection of artwork for Wal-Mart where there is something for every style. I found several pieces I am considering for our main home and the lake house. They made it so easy for my vision to come together and complete our powder room . I hope you enjoy my reveal and get some chic guest bathroom decor ideas along the way.
Chic Guest Bathroom Decor Ideas

Choose a Color Scheme
There were so many paint colors I loved when we were narrowing down the options of guest bathroom ideas that I was drawn to. As always, I like to stick to neutrals (well, except for my laundry room. Ha!). With neutral colors I believe it’s easier to complete a chic, sophisticated look that will stand the test of time. I don’t want to have to paint my bathroom or remodel my bathroom anytime soon.
I had help with the design of this powder bath from Laura of The Pankonien Group. We went very warm, yet neutral in here with the paint colors. Think shades of grey, beige, brass and seagrass walls. The trim and bathroom vanity color are Sherwin Williams Grizzle Grey. Black and white is another classic, timeless bathroom color scheme I love.
2. Choose your Tile
The tile will make the first impression and generally it takes up the most space of the room. I knew I wanted to make a statement with the floor tile and chose to have it laid in a herringbone pattern. It had to be hand cut with a tile saw in order for the tile to be laid in that pattern. I LOVE the floor! We opted for a bolder/darker tile to offset the neutral walls. It was a basic warm grey tile we found at a local tile shop.
Since we have no shower curtain in here and had a frameless glass door installed, we went with a neutral beige linen type tile with a warm grey mosaic floor tile. It just kind of blends into the background. I also love all the varieties of subway tiles on the market these days and that is actually what I have in all of our kids’ bathrooms.
3. Choose your Accents
I chose to go with a seagrass wallpaper. I love wallpaper because it can make a big statement. Great way to add a pop of color or texture to any room! My wallpaper has lots of texture and I felt the neutral color could last a very long time in here and really stay “in style” for years. As for the lights in the bathroom, we went with brass sconces next to the mirror and a brass flush mount pendant hanging from the ceiling. The bathroom fixtures are brass as well. I have these plumbing fixtures all over the lake house bathroom designs as well. They are my go-to for an affordable, chic look.
4. Add a Vanity Mirror
Mirrors are functional and a must for any bathroom space. Functional as in checking for something in your teeth. They add light to the room and they can definitely add style! I love how many fun mirror options there are these days. Don’t feel like you need a typical square bathroom mirror over your vanity. The trend is to use the vanity mirror as another home decor piece and make a statement with the different shapes, colors, and more that are available today.
5. Add Stylish Décor
Towels are essential for the bathroom. I went for a cute fringe hand towel draped over the sink and then I rolled white bath towels in the shower area to look more elegant. How you style towels can really make it feel as if your bathroom is a spa or hotel. In my master bath, I rolled white towels up and put them in a large basket.
We don’t have guests that often that use this shower, so I added a garden stool (similar linked) and a faux orchid for some color in the neutral shower. On the vanity, I added a chunky wooden bowl with some green moss balls and a great decorative book with some more greenery. With all of my neutral pieces, I never forget to add some greenery so it’s not bland.
6. Add Eye-Catching Artwork
Like I mentioned previously, I felt like my guest bath was a little boring without any artwork on the wall. Every room needs art and my artwork for the guest bathroom was this gorgeous modern frameless artwork from Art.com for Wal-Mart. I love the modern wall art pieces that they offer. The modern white with shades of grey and green art. It adds the perfect chic touch and looks great hung on the seagrass wallpaper. Did I mention that my exact art piece was under $50?! I chose the 18×24 size.
