What is the most important room in the house…..Yep, you guessed it! It’s the kitchen! The kitchen really is the heart of the home and the room where everyone gravitates. It is where guests congregate and family lingers after a long day. It is where I spend most of my time and the kids too…having a meal, doing homework and everything in between! So with all of that being said, we want our kitchens to look and feel as nice as possible! You don’t have to use super pricey products to make your kitchen look more expensive. Today I am sharing my top tips on How to Make Your Kitchen Look More Expensive!
How to Make Your Kitchen Look More Expensive
Incorporate Nice Seating
Bring in some nice seating to elevate your kitchen. Maybe you have a breakfast nook, an island or a bar in your own kitchen. Make that seating a statement! There are so many seating options out there to choose from, you can drive yourself crazy looking for the perfect one. I love to keep my kitchen neutral..counters, cabinets and paint colors. Seating is one place where you can bring in color, texture and a fun design style. I love my counter stools I have at our lakehouse and these at our main house. These bistro style stools add lots of the texture and are a fabulous family friendly option. They are very easy to clean. I am also sharing a very similar budget friendly option here.
Choose Large-Scale Lighting
Lighting is one way to really upgrade your kitchen, and you don’t have to break the bank to find fabulous options. If you know me by now, you know my love for brass fixtures. It really helps to bring that touch of sophistication to any space. I LOVE the way my square brass & glass pendants look hanging over the counter at the lakehouse. I have these brass pendants in our kitchen at home. Another important factor is the scale of the light. Large scale lighting tricks the eye to make your space appear larger. Two larger spaced pendants definitely offer a bigger WOW factor then smaller pendants. It helps to make the room look larger and grand. There are so many great lighting options available, I am also sharing a beautiful “save” option similar to my own.
Upgrade your Hardware
Changing out your hardware is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to update your kitchen cabinets. Or maybe your kitchen came with no hardware at all? New hardware offers a quick and easy kitchen makeover! I really love the look of the brass hardware against a white cabinet. It looks so crisp and clean and adds a litte bit of glam, lending to that more expensive look I was going for. I did a great cup pull style here in the lakehouse and in my main house we have a more modern style. I love them both! And they prevent your cabinets from getting dirty over the years. My lakehouse cup pulls were reasonably priced, but I was able to find an amazing “save” option similar to mine also!
Add a Statement Rug
Now is the fun part, where you can really start to bring your personality into the room…by adding a statement rug! A rug is a fun way to add pops of color and pattern into your kitchen and helps brings together the overall design aesthetic you are trying to achieve. Boho, modern, traditional, farmhouse and the list goes on! I always add a runner in front of the kitchen sink or in front of the stove. It really adds so much! My lakehouse kitchen runner is sold out for the moment, but I LOVE this affordable showstopper and this navy pattern is so pretty. This navy and pink option is an ABSOLUTE stunner and on my wish list right now!
Layer in some Faux Florals or Greenery
I love having plants around the house, both real or faux. They help to add texture and color and make your space become alive. Faux plants these days can look very realistic! I have this lifelike succulent in the lakehouse kitchen on the countertop. My best selling faux pink orchid is sold out that I have on my island, but I have linked one from the same maker. I have tons of faux plants around the house (like this best selling faux fiddle leaf fig) as they are easy to care for and always look good. Place on your kitchen counters or style some faux stems in a vase on kitchen shelving. They are also easy to move around room to room to change things up.
Decorate with Books
Ask any professional interior designer how to make your kitchen look more expensive and they will suggest all of the above ideas, PLUS adding in tons of florals and books to give it a chic, layered look! Yet another easy way to make your kitchen look more expensive is through books. They are great for adding some texture and for creating fun little vignettes around the house. Whether you stack them or stand up them, there are endless possibilities for decorating with books. Add a candle or florals on a stack of chic books, and you have instantly elevated your kitchen space.
All of these tips I have shared on How to Make Your Kitchen Look More Expensive are very doable no matter what your budget is. These simple ideas will immediately elevate your kitchen without any construction involved! From the large scale lighting fixtures to the fun patterned rug on the ground, it will look like you hired a pro decorator to give your kitchen a revamp!
