Outdoor Patio Decorating Ideas
A few updates on the Patio…
First off, if you caught my recent post about to How to Decorate your Patio for Summer, then you will notice we made a few exciting changes to our patio area. After the pool was done and I began ordering pool loungers and more, I got the itch to update a few things in the patio area as well. So, who did I immediately think of to help me with this?! Annie Selke, of course! We have had great luck with their outdoor rugs and pillows at the lakehouse and down at our barn. The quality is amazing and everything is scrubbable and looks new year after year.
New Outdoor Pillows
Our sectional (old Costco) is fairly neutral, so I decided to keep that for now and update the pillows and rug in our outdoor area with some adorable Annie Selke outdoor products! I am always preaching how that is the easiest and most affordable way to update any space! And I love all shades of blue with a pop of pink (haha, big shocker) and I wanted to bring in more blue to coordinate with the new pool.
I added 3 of Cape Stripe pillows, several of the Catamaran Navy stripe lumbar pillows, 1 of Crystal Denim pillows and created the cutest pillow combo with some of my existing pillows I already had!
Be sure and check out these super cute Annie Selke pillows we have at the lakehouse.
Outdoor Rug Update
I have have been drooling over this Cleo outdoor rug for YEARS and jumped at the chance to add it in our patio area. We loved our previous neutral rug, but I decided to add a large-scale pattern in the Cleo rug (in navy). I absolutely LOVE it like I knew I would. The material is very soft yet durable and could easily go inside your home too. Since the pillows are mainly stripes and small scale, the large pattern of the rug pairs nicely with the new pillows.
We have this navy pouf as well that has held up amazingly well the last 4 years. Literally looks brand new and has never come indoors.
Now for the Pool Reveal…
I have received tons of DM’s about our new pool. I took y’all along the construction process and as I chose the tile, the pool color and more. We used a very small local OKC company called Paradise Pools as our friends had good luck with them. Unfortunately, he may be retiring FYI.
We had our plans drawn up for the pool several years ago when we built our house. I was waiting for our kids to get a bit older before we actually built the pool. When our youngest turned 5 and had been an excellent swimmer for about a year, we decided to begin construction.
Timeless yet Modern Look
I knew I always wanted a timeless, classic, clean-line pool. You can check out my Pinterest Pool Inspiration board where I have been gathering ideas for years. With the size of our backyard and etc., we decided a pool approximately 18 by 38ft. would look in scale with the house and yard. We chose salt water and we added a hot tub. We have small tanning ledge that goes into a sport pool, which is 3.5 ft on each end but goes down to 5ft in the middle.
I chose a simple deep blue Mosaic tile from the main pool tile supplier in OKC. I wanted the tile to blend with the water and not stand out too much. There are so many tiles to choose from, it was overwhelming for sure.
Choosing the Color of the Pool was Stressful
The most challenging part for me when doing the pool was choosing what color the pool water would be. I stressed and stressed over it for months and finally chose Quartzscapes Midnight Blue. This is the quartz material they spray on the concrete of the pool and determines how the water will look. When they first sprayed the color on, I was sick to my stomach! lol! It looked soooo bright and hideous. I knew from doing my research and from hearing from lots of you, that would be the case, but I still couldn’t stop worrying.
Pool Color Cont’d.
Once they filled the pool with water and let it set for a few days, I began to fall in love with it. And just so you are aware, the water changes colors all day long as it has to do with how the sun rays reflect into the water. So during the morning and afternoon sun, our pool is the lightest color. As the day goes on, it looks deeper and more blue to me, like the perfect navyish colored water.
We did not do a black bottom pool as we live in the country and I wanted to be able to see kids and any creatures that make their way in. They also get way hotter in the summer from what I have heard.
Sun Deck Decor
With our new sun deck, I ordered these RH loungers and these navy and white striped umbrellas. (We have 11ft size and 9ft size). The wicker side tables are linked here. I added the Tideline Navy pillow to the loungers. I really wanted teak loungers. But the more research I did and the more people I talked to, I knew they wouldn’t hold up well in the Oklahoma sun year round. I wanted something as durable as possible, so I chose aluminum.
Modern Touches to the Sundeck
The loungers are very modern but so cool. I softened them up with the pillows and more traditional umbrellas. Then I added a grouping of these outdoor lanterns to each end of the sun deck. I have the estate size, large and med. We had them on our front porch and y’all have loved them! We also added a small conversation area over by the hot tub too in the same style.
That wraps up everything! I hope you found this post helpful and gathered some fab new outdoor decorating ideas for your own space. Don’t forget to follow me on IG as I share there daily!
