Nespresso vs Keurig Coffee Review
I have been getting lots of questions lately on how I like my Nespresso maker, the Nespresso pods that are my favorite and Keurig Coffee vs Nespresso. I love anything and everything coffee flavored, so I decided to compile it all in one easy place for you with details about my 2 favorite single serve coffee makers, the Keurig and Nespresso.
Follow along as I share with you how I make the most delicious coffee, as well as a comparison of which is better…the Nespresso or Keurig Coffee machine. Welcome to the Curls and Cashmere Coffee house, let’s get started!

What is a Nespresso Coffee Machine?
We have the Nespresso Vertuo Plus. One of the less expensive Nespresso options, but does not disappoint. It is a single serve coffee maker by De Longhi that makes the best coffee quickly. I am talking tastes like I have a personal barista in my pantry without having to use any other gadgets (unless you choose to). We have a french press and a pour over we use with hot water and freshly ground coffee, but who really has time for that?! Sometimes on the weekends we do, but 99% of the time we are in a hurry and want our coffee quickly.
We have had our Nespresso machine about a year and a half. After trying it at several resorts while on vacation, I knew I wanted one for home. I have it situated right next to our Keurig machine in our newly organized pantry. The Veruto Plus has a moveable water tank and offers 5 coffee cup sizes….5 oz., 8 oz, 14 oz and 2 espresso sizes. To be honest, I haven’t tried very many lattes and cappuccino recipes. I have primarily stuck with the coffee capsules up to this point and I always add some hot, frothy cream to mine with stevia. It is just personal preference.
Which is better… the Nespresso or Keurig Coffee machine?
I often get asked my opinion on…..Nespresso vs. Keurig! I have and use both! It really depends on if I am in the mood for a plain cup of coffee (Keurig) or more of a frothy, coffeehouse-type drink (Nespresso). Below I outlined some of the pros and cons of the Nespresso vs. Keurig Coffee machines.
Nespresso Coffee PROs:
- It tastes just like it was brewed from an upscale coffeehouse! The froth or (crema as they call it) is sooo delish that the Nespresso capsule spin technology creates. People ask me all the time on Instagram what I added to make my Nespresso so frothy and they are always shocked when I tell them nothing…that’s just how the Nespresso coffee pod brews it. And it’s SO good!
- You can brew either coffee or espresso capsules, plus they have a HUGE variety of gourmet coffee pods to choose from. Once we are able to travel more, I want to go to a Nespresso Boutique and sample some capsules to find more coffee favorites. We don’t have one in OKC or I already would have went.
- The Nespresso machine has pretty much curbed my Starbucks cravings. Before I had my Nespresso machine, I was easily going to Starbucks 1-2 times per day! That $4 latte 2 times per day adds up quickly, plus it can be a lot of extra calories when I am not exactly sure how much of everything they are putting in my drink. It has more than paid for itself, saved me time and gas money also.
Nespresso Coffee CONs:
- The Nespresso machine does not brew super, super hot. It brews hot coffee, but I want it to be almost scalding! When I was going to Starbucks often, I was the girl who ordered my latte “extra hot”. Could be because I am a very slow drinker and I want it to stay hot for as long as possible. It wouldn’t deter me from buying another machine, but FYI.
- The Nespresso capsules are more money than the Keurig k cafe pods. But when compared to what I am saving by not going to Starbucks often, it is still saving me money. I usually buy all of our Nespresso capsules from Amazon…they have a great variety and fast shipping.
Keurig Coffee PROs:
- Cost. The Keurig machines are typically cheaper than Nespresso machines. I linked the newer model to the one we have had for a few years. It has been great.
- Most Keurig k cafe pods are cheaper than Nespresso pods.
- Tons of Keurig pod options are available at most every grocery store. I like this organic dark roast coffee pod I buy at Sam’s club often. I believe it comes in plain coffee beans also and it is just so rich and tasty for your cup of joe.
Keurig Coffee CONs:
- Not necessarily a con to some, but more basic coffee options overall. No frills. If you prefer a basic cup of black coffee, Keurig is probably the better option for you. Doesn’t really taste gourmet or like a barista made it for me.
- No froth comes out of the pods. Boo.
How I use my Nespresso Machine
These are my favorite pods for the Nespresso right now… the Melozio. It is a medium roast coffee and has a smooth taste. I have tried a lot of different Nespresso capsules but I keep coming back to this one!
I also love this decaf capsule I have been using more in the afternoons.
- If I want to be really fancy and have a few extra minutes, while my Nespresso is brewing, I will use one of my 2 milk frothers to steam up some half and half to top my coffee with.
- I have this electric milk frother , which can froth either hot or cold. It has been a best seller for the last year with you girls! It makes so much fluffy froth which really hits the spot in the afternoon and feels like a major treat! I have played around with different plant based milks and more, but I just keep going back to plain half and half. It froths so well. Oat milk is the only plant based milk that seemed to froth pretty well.
- I also use this simple handheld frother for when I am in a hurry. The froth isn’t as great as my electric one, but it gets the job done. I will microwave a little half and half to heat it up, then use the handheld frother to froth up some half and half to add to my coffee.
- I also add in a scoop of my prebiotic fiber boost. It is organic and plant based and great for digestion and immune support. It is such an easy way to a sneak something healthy into my afternoon treat! And it is unflavored so I don’t even notice it in my coffee. I also like 1 stevia in mine for a little sweetness.
- Finally, I will top my coffee with a heaping scoop of the froth I made and cozy up for a few quick minutes to myself! It’s the perferct recharge to get me over that afternoon slump!
FYI, to keep my Nespresso piping hot once it’s ready, I pour it into one of my favorite Christmas gifts, the Ember Mug!
This temperature control mug can be set to any desired temp making this perfect for those of you that are slow drinkers or get distracted often with kids and etc.
Used to, I would start drinking my coffee and get distracted getting the kids out the door and then come back to a cold cup of coffee. Not with this mug though, my coffee will stay hot for 1.5 hours off the charger or I can use the charging coaster and keep it hot for hours. I personally set the temp to 145 degrees, which is so hot and steamy!
If I don’t have any extra time, I don’t use either frother and just add a splash of cream and 1 stevia to my Nespresso. The crema from the Nespresso is so delish by itself too. Check out more yummy Nespresso recipes here. There are so many I want to try!
Healthy Treat to Pair with your Coffee
I recently shared some yummy protein balls my husband made on my IG @curlsandcashmere and SO many of you asked for the recipe. I personally love them in the morning for a quick bite with, you guessed it, a cup of coffee! See his recipe below.
- 1 cup rolled oats (not quick oats)
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips (mini ghiradelli preferred but can use regular size as well)
- ½ cup of smooth natural peanut butter
- ½ cup flax seed OR chia seeds
- ⅓ cup of honey
- 1 tsp of vanilla
- Mix all ingredients together well in a bowl, cover and set in fridge for 20 min.
- Make a heaping scoop with a small cookie scooper for consistent size or can also do by hand.
- Put in fridge for few hours before eating or can throw in freezer for 30 min to an hour to expedite firming up.
- Store in the fridge.
And that’s a wrap on my Nespresso vs Keurig Coffee review. If you are a coffee lover and love the convenience of single serve coffee makers like myself, I know you will enjoy the Nespresso machine as much as I do! I would love to here how you make your favorite cup of coffee, I am always open to new suggestions! Enjoy those energy balls too!
