As I am sure you well know, the kitchen is the heart of the home! We gather here all hours of the day; for breakfast, dinnertime, homework and everything in between. It is important to have your kitchen feel fresh and inviting for not only your family, but for your guests as well.
We are currently planning the design of our new lakehouse kitchen, and believe me, that is where I want the bulk of our budget to go for the new build. I don’t want to look back and wish I would have done this or that as I know how time consuming and costly full kitchen remodels can be. There are so many ways to refresh the look of your kitchen without spending tons of time and money or having to hire an interior design firm.
Today I will be sharing 5 tips on how to rejuvenate the look of your kitchen and give it a fresh new look without doing a total overhaul.

Install New Kitchen Light Fixtures
Lighting is the jewelry of a home. It can make or break a space and is a must if you are looking to update the look of your kitchen. I have had these brass Goodman pendant lights above my island for the last 6+ years. I still love them so much and will definitely find a place for them at the new lakehouse. But I was ready for a cost effective refresh to my kitchen. I knew adding new light fixtures would give me all the kitchen feels without breaking the bank! Lol. I added these new pendant lights in size medium in the gilded bronze color. They look more like brass in real life and match my existing brass sconces perfectly. Check out my lighting fixtures below plus some look alikes!
Add Open Shelving
Is it possible that you have a space around the upper cabinets in your kitchen to add some floating shelves? Our floating shelves are actually reclaimed wood from a speciality wood shop in OK called Renaissance Wood. In our old lakehouse kitchen we just sold a few months ago, I decided not to mess with the expense of reclaimed wood and had the trim carpenter build us some white oak shelving stained to match our white oak wood floors. It was a minimal expense and they can add so much to your existing cabinetry. Check out this kitchen decor post for how I like to decorate my open shelving in my kitchen.
Update the Kitchen Cabinets
How old is the cabinet hardware on your existing kitchen cabinets? Or maybe you don’t have any at all? Cabinet hardware is very affordable these days online or at your local home improvement store and can drastically change the look of your base and upper cabinets. Whether you prefer knobs, drawer pulls, or cup pulls, there are so many styles to update any kitchen. Just remember if you have existing hardware on your cabinets, once you remove it, you will need to find the exact or very similar size to what you had on your cabinets, otherwise you may have to touch up the woodwork or paint.
Change the Wall Color in your Kitchen

Adding a fresh coat of paint to your kitchen walls can help make everything look fresh and new. I love a bright white wall color such as Benjamin Moore Simply White (what we painted our old lakehouse walls and cabinetry) or a creamy white like Sherwin Willaims Natural Choice like we have at our main house on the kitchen walls and living room. My parents just updated their home and while they kept their dark stained cabinets and trim, they painted their walls a brighter white color (Sherwin Williams Alabaster) and it made their kitchen feel brighter and larger instantly!
Change out the Kitchen Accessories
Low on budget and time? If you don’t have time to do much to refresh your kitchen, try adding some new accessories or decor like a new kitchen rug or kitchen runner, stools, or try decorating with some greenery. I often change out the rug in our kitchen every year or two. In fact, I love the look of a vintage turkish runner but those can be pricey. I have some great cost effective options linked below.
I love our Serena and Lily Rivera counter stools soooo much! I have them in the natural color and they are kid-friendly too. They instantly changed the look of my kitchen a few years ago when I added them. Lots of great options are linked below. Just remember to double check on if you need bar height or counter height.
Walking into my kitchen decorated with fresh flowers instantly brightens my day. We have a fairly large island (9ft wide to be exact), so I love to get a fresh new flower arrangement for the island. I am also a big fan of faux flowers as well if the look is right. We had this faux orchid arrangement at the old lakehouse kitchen, and it was a best seller for months .
